Today,
My miniature hampster, Gary, passed away. This is my tribute post to him.
I still remember the first day I got him. My mom wanted me to go visit a few garage sales around the area. I was reluctant at the time, but I felt bad because I knew if I didn’t go with her she wouldn’t go. So I went with her. We went to a few garage sales in the adjacent towns. We picked up little things here and there. Then we came across a garage sale that was selling hampster tubes. I had been wanting a hampster for a while. So I decided to buy the tubes. Upon paying for them, I turned to my mom and said, “All I need now is the hampster!” The lady actually GAVE me a hampster! That hampster’s name…. was Gary.
I immediately fell in love with him. He was my buddy. I would play with him every day. It was funny because at first, he didn’t want to be touched. When I reached into his cage, he would look at my hand, squint his eyes like he was mad, and slap my hand when it came close enough. It was the funniest thing I had ever seen in my life. He used to love getting a bath. (and yes, you give hampsters baths.) One time after a bath I was trying him with a washcloth and I noticed he was eating. I didn’t think anything of it at first, but then I realized that the little bugger had stored food in his cheeks and had just spit all of it into my hand! I only had Gary for 6 months, but it feels like I’ve had him for years.
I love Gary and will miss him dearly. You will not be forgotten, gar-bear.
Until next time…
